Before Surgery

Prior to the day of surgery, you will be contacted to:

  • Confirm your scheduled services.
  • Review special instructions specific to your needs and treatment plan.
  • Discuss your insurance coverage and make arrangements for payment of your copay, coinsurance or deductible (if applicable).
  • If you should develop any health change (i.e. fever, cough, cold or flu) between your most recent visit to your surgeon and the day of surgery, please contact your surgeon.

If you are not contacted within one working day, prior to your surgery, please call (317) 569- 8250 to talk with a  nurse to confirm your scheduled services and instructions.

Day of Surgery

On the day of surgery:

  • Arrive at The Surgery Center of Carmel one hour before your scheduled surgery unless otherwise instructed.
  • Bring your copay, coinsurance or deductible (if applicable).
  • Bring your driver’s license/photo ID and current insurance card.
  • Bring your Surgery envelope with completed forms inside.
  • You will meet with your anesthesia provider prior to surgery to discuss the services you will be receiving and answer any questions you may have.
  • Before your surgery you will be allowed to have a family member or friend join you.

After Surgery

After discharge from our facility:

  • Your surgeon will provide post-operative instructions regarding diet, rest, and medications.
  • Make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you after surgery.
  • You should not drive, or operate equipment, sign important papers, make significant decisions or drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours after surgery.
  • If you have any unexpected problems, please contact your surgeon’s office.

Following your surgery, we will attempt to reach you to evaluate your recovery progress and answers any questions you may have.

IMPORTANT ITEMS TO REMEMBER:

  • If you should develop any health change (i.e. fever, cough, cold or flu) between your most recent visit to your surgeon and the day of surgery, please contact your surgeon.
  • Some medications need to be taken. If you are taking medications, please check with your physician’s office or one of our nurses prior to surgery for specific instructions. Do not take herbal/diet medications prior to surgery 7 days prior to surgery.
  • If you suspect you are pregnant, notify your surgeon. Anesthesia and medication may be harmful to the developing fetus.
  • Bathe or shower the morning of surgery to minimize the chance of infection. Do not apply lotions or moisturizers. Remove make-up and nail polish.
  • Wear loose and comfortable clothes that can easily slip over bandages, arms, feet, knees or your head.
  • Leave your jewelry and valuable at home. Remove all body piercings.
  • Remove your contact lenses. Bring your glasses and a case to put them in.
  • DO NOT EAT OR DRINK anything (including water) after midnight the night before surgery, unless otherwise instructed by your surgeon.
  • Two adults should accompany children; one to drive and one to take care of the child.
  • Children may bring a special toy, book or blanket, if desired.
  • Bring a list of all medication you are currently taking. (Include strength and dosage)
  • Bring your current insurance cards. Make sure all authorizations and referrals have been obtained before surgery.
